IN PICTURES: Welwitschia mirabilis
05.03.10
Welwitschia mirabilis is undoubtedly one of the world's strangest plants. Considered
a living fossil it is the only surviving member of its ancient family (Welwitschiaceae).
They are incredibly long-lived, certainly over 1,000 years, with some estimates suggesting
they can reach 2,000. They are restricted to the Namib Desert.
