UK: Wildlife sanctuary celebrates 30th birthday

06.10.10

The 149 acre Loder Valley Nature Reserve at Kew's Wakehurst Place - home of the Millennium Seed Bank - celebrates its 30th birthday this month with two special open day weekends.

The weekends of 16/17 and 23/24 October will offer a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the reserve and find out more about how its landscape of ancient woodland, wildflower meadows, and network of hedgerows and waterways is managed for conservation. There will also be a special photography exhibition in the Wakehurst Visitor Centre.

Iain Parkinson, Manager of Wakehurst’s Conservation and Woodland team, said: “The Loder Valley is Wakehurst’s best kept secret. It is a magical place where there is always something special to enjoy, all year round.

“The open days are a chance for everyone to experience and observe the reserve and meet some of the staff who manage the site.”
