The demise of Juniper is well documented and a major cause of the loss is due to grazing - both too little and too much. Too much grazing prevents the young shrubs from establishing and too little may mean the bushes are out-competed by other, vigorous, plants. Some of the Juniper sites on the Lizard are protected by solar-powered electric fencing, to protect the plants from sheep and cattle, while still allowing grazing from the resident rabbits.
